Courses
I began teaching in 1991 as a high school Chemistry teacher in Athens, TX, the “brick and mortar” style, as they say. After two years, I realized I wanted to know more about chemistry, so I applied to the graduate Chemistry program at The Pennsylvania State University. I taught there as a lab instructor and then as a research assistant while working on my Ph.D. in chemistry in the Thomas E. Mallouk nanomaterials laboratory. Then I was off to DuPont as a Senior Research Chemist in the Lycra® spandex division.
However, in 2003 I started to wonder about bigger questions and began my journey into the Catholic Church. I decided to stay home and raise children, being open to life, and along the way I gained experience as a home school mom, teaching my own kids and online classes for Kolbe Academy from 2014 – 2018. In 2014, after completing a M.A. degree in dogmatic theology completely online, I began teaching online courses for Holy Apostles College & Seminary and Seton Hall University, where my hero, Fr. Stanley L. Jaki had been a Distinguished Professor. I’ve been doing so for about a decade now. I also teach a course at Belmont Abbey College and recorded a course for Word on Fire Institute.
So, I have experience teaching all levels from high school to college, seminary, university, and for the public interest, and I have been advocating for online courses for a decade as a student, parent, and instructor. I don’t think they should replace in-person courses, but they fill a need for many students and instructors who otherwise would not be able to connect, making online education a crucial component of modern higher education. The key is engagement! I have kept up with LMS technology and pedagogy. These are the courses I currently teach online at various institutions, and I’m proud to say I still do it all from home.
